Hadn’t realised it was so long…

July 28, 2007 at 8:17 am (blogging without obligation, journal, sketchbook)

I really hadn’t realised it was so long since i last posted anything…. however.. I did see an interesting thing on Stitching with Schnauzer and Siamese

bloggingwithout.jpg

it was the above… I thought it was just what I needed….

there are a few quotes on Stitching with Schnauzer and Siamese that I’ve made a note of

“I hate flowers – I paint them because they’re cheaper than models

and they don’t move. “

Georgia O’Keefe

I’ve been adding texture to my pictures using fabric/tissue paper and feathers then adding paint /pastels / food colouring… and I’ve ended up with a lot of flower pictures… so I think I may well add this quote to one or two of them… they are still just experiments in my sketchbook….

flowers2.jpg

flowers3.jpg

these three pictures are still work in progress.. they now need some details adding… something I’m really not very good at doing…

I’ve also add a couple of pages to ‘you are the truth’ journal project…. art – activism – change

truthjournal.jpg

not a very good picture… I really must learn more about digital photography… I wrote the following

‘…to confront a person with his own shadow is to show him his own light…’ Carl Jung

‘the truth about the parts of yourself you love are easy to tell… but what about the truth that lives in the shadow of darkness within… can you confront your own shadow?’… soul at play

the journal is now on it’s way to Beth in Orkney…

well that’s it for now… however.. it’s good to post something again… so I’m sure I’ll be back soon…

What’s in My Journal…

June 10, 2007 at 7:25 am (ATC's, journal)

What’s in My Journal

Odd things, like a button drawer

Mean things, fishhooks, barbs in your hand

But marbles too

A genius for being agreeable

Junkyard crucifixes, voluptuous discards

Space for knickknacks, and for Alaska

Evidence to hang me, or to beatify

Clues that lead nowhere, that never connect anyway

Deliberate obfuscation, the kind that takes genius

Chasma in character

Load omissions

Mornings that yawn above a new grave

Pages you know exist.

~ William Stafford

I collect quotes, poems and sayings… I scribble them everywhere… I add them to my art work… I write them in my journals… I even have a word document where I copy and paste ‘jottings’ I find online… well I’ve decided to use the above poem in connection with my latest piece of fabric…

I realise everyone reads something different into each piece of writing/art… so I’m not going to say much about this poem… on the surface it seemed so me… i have boxes of discards / knickknacks… a button tin.. lots of marbles (I use them in my indigo dyeing)…. there’s hundreds of fishing hooks in this house… I love Alaska (but have never been… the reality might be different)… that said I’m not going to say any more even though other lines do say something to me…

Anyway it seemed to fit with the piece of black/white (with a hint of red) fabric I’m working on at the moment… the ‘plus size’ inches that I’m working on also need to include words so… it’s a questions of which to pick… can you think of a way to attach the whole poem?

As yet without the hint of red… but cut up ready to make into ATCs…

Design decisions…

May 24, 2007 at 6:10 pm (beading, journal, new project)

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post I’ve committed myself to a year long project, a bead journal, starting in June. So I’m having to make some design decisions…

After much consideration and deliberation… I think I’m going to opt for the book format, as I’m thinking of this project as a place I can try out ideas… maybe add a few personal happenings… the idea of a journal done with beads and hand stitches on some of my hand dyed/painted fabrics seems to me the perfect place to maybe share a few secrets in the bead/stitch work… therefore a book seems to be the perfect setting… I have started making a paper journal that I will keep during the next year… somewhere to jot down any design ideas and developments… maybe I can combine the two journals somehow…I’ll have to think about that a bit… I’m really looking forward to starting this project…

Well I’ve just managed to past the afternoon….

May 19, 2007 at 3:57 pm (beading, journal)

you know how it goes, one link leads to another…..

having joined the bead journal project I thought I would also start a sketch book where I can work on the ideas I have for this project…. I’ve tried before to write daily but not managed to keep it up for any length of time….. but thought that I may try and combine the two here…

a site that I’ve just found, but not explored more than a fraction of, looks to be full of great ideas …. Soul Food Cafe …..enjoy

Photos of the project I’m working on at the moment…

May 17, 2007 at 8:21 pm (beading, doodling, fabric dyeing, journal, stitch / hand, stitch / machine)

This is the last week of the doodling online class I’ve been participating in….. at  jogglers.

the idea was to take a piece of pattern fabric ( it could have a pattern created by you from a doodle), then paint another doodle on top….. bit difficult to explain hope the pictures say it all…

painted white

painted web

not yet finished painting and decorating the fabric yet, but the idea is to then add some stitching and maybe a few beads…. I might use a piece of the fabric as background for my bead journal…

I’ve just come across a project that sounds very exciting, a Bead Journal Project, starting in June 2007, producing one page a month for a year……..Robin has come up with the idea… I’ve just sent an email saying I’m interested in taking part… think I’m going to need an extra day a week to work on this!
